“Staying Focused for Life was established to help people develop the proper mindset and learn basic skills needed for personal survival and preparedness” says founder and instructor Rick Klopp. “These skills will help individuals and families become better equipped when facing life-threatening situations varying from criminal assaults on the street to a natural disaster or from an economic melt-down to public unrest.”
What has threatened American society in the past can and does threaten us again today. The problem is that the situation is going from bad to worse at an increasing rate. Statistically, the incidence of violent crime also tends to increase as the economy weakens. When the general populace is without food, water, and adequate shelter; looting, rioting, and violence can rule the day. If an urban disaster or terrorist strike occurs are you prepared? If caught in a wilderness survival situation do you possess the necessary skills to obtain food, water and shelter in unconventional ways? If not prepared for these events, your chances of survival are minimal.
Staying Focused for Life through our alliances provides training in armed and unarmed self-defense, basic awareness and assault avoidance, basic wilderness survival skills and issues of general preparedness.
Firearms
Do you have the proper mindset, attitude, knowledge and skills to use a firearm? Can you shoot effectively in your home? Do you know the law regarding concealed carry? How close is too close? Does caliber really make a difference? Are you prepared for the aftermath of the deadly use of a firearm? These are some of the questions that are answered in our basic firearms classes. The classes are conducted in both a one-on-one PRIVATE training session with you and the instructor as well as in small groups. We believe that this is the best format in which to learn the knowledge and skills required to protect both yourself and those you are responsible for. Advanced classes including defensive tactics are also available.
Edged Weapons
Anyone holding a knife at close proximity has a tremendous advantage even if you are armed. There are, however, several defensive skills that can be learned which will increase your chances of surviving a knife attack. These skills start with a basic understanding of the different types of edged weapons, the various types of knife attacks, and an understanding of how a criminal can injure or kill you with a knife including target vulnerability, gross anatomy, and anatomical orientation.
Awareness & Avoidance
For personal safety and an improved level of self-confidence these classes will help you learn the concepts of Awareness, Avoidance, and Ability. The capacity to recognize real or perceived threats and the skill to follow through with a proven course of action is the basis of personal self-defense. First, you will learn how to increase your level of awareness. Avoidance is the next step and although fairly simple in concept, it is unfortunately the one we pay the least attention to. Think about it – your chances of an assault are less likely if you don’t put yourself in a dangerous situation in the first place. And finally, when you have done all that there is to be aware and avoid trouble, you may still be in a fight for your life. Learn the basic life-saving skills needed to fend off an attacker by developing your physical and psychological abilities.
Combatives & Conditioning
Improving fundamental self-defense skills require a wide range of exercises including strength, flexibility, endurance, balance, speed, and agility. These fundamentals will be taught in a small group setting with each student receiving personal attention. Even if you have had little or no previous training, acquiring some basic knowledge and learning a few highly effective techniques will place you one step closer to being prepared should you need to defend yourself.
Wilderness Survival
Wilderness survival, similar to firearms and awareness training begins with the proper mindset. You need to focus on the primary objective of survival and not on one of fear or panic. Through a series of short courses, you will develop a comfort level with your newly acquired skills and be less likely to panic should you be confronted with an actual survival situation. Topics of study include shelter, fire, water, common wild edible plants, first aid, hunting, basic tracking, traps and snares, cooking and storage, and navigation.
